  • Mii Fighters, cartoonish, personalized caricatures, will be available to select as yout fighter in Super Smash Bros. Wii U. Like with Skylanders, Nintendo has introduced figurines of  Nintendo characters called “Amiibos” that when pressed upon the Wii U Pad, will introduce new characters or character attributes into games like Super Smash Bros. Wii U, and Mario Kart 8.
  • Yoshi’s Wooly World is a game that resembles Kirby’s Epic Yarn, and will be out 2015.
  • The new Legend of Zelda game for Wii U will feature an open-world environment. A teaser was shown and the game is due out in 2015.
  • Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for 3DS were shown and are coming Nov. 21st.
  • Bayonetta 2 will now feature the complete first game, and will have a Link costume for Bayonetta herself.
  • You can play as Link,  Zelda, Midna, and others in Hyrule Warriors. Coming Sept. 26th.
  • Kirby’s Rainbow Curse is coming to Wii U in 2015.
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X is coming to Wii U in 2015.
  • Splatoon is an 8-player third-person shooter involving ink guns from the guys working under Shigeru Miyamoto.
  • The show ended with the announcement of a new character, Goddess Palutena, for Super Smash Bros. Wii U.
  • IGN reports Itagaki’s Devil’s Third is now a Wii U exclusive; it is an over-the-top, vulgar third-person action/shooter game with sword fighting.

  • Destiny can be played first on PS4 through a beta on July 17th. A white PS4 Destiny bundle will be available Sept. 9, 2014.
  • Some new gameplay footage from The Order: 1886 was shown.
  • Entwined is an artistic looking game about two souls who are in love featuring dragons. It’s available today for $9.99.
  • Stand alone DLC for Infamous: Second Son has been announced.
  • Little Big Planet 3 for PS4 was announced and demonstrated. Will allow access to the 100s of millions of levels created on Little Big Planet 1 and 2.
  • Bloodborne from From Software brings the dark fantasy gameplay to PS4 in 2015.
  • Finally, some gameplay for Far Cry 4 was shown. If you buy the PS3 or PS4 versions of Far Cry 4, you can invite PSN friends to play the game for free, even if they don’t own the game.
  • Dead Island 2 was announced and PS4 version will have exclusive character, level, and a 30 day beta.
  • Diablo 3 on PlayStation 4 will have The Last of Us characters in it.
  • Battlefield: Hardline beta announcement for PlayStation 4.
  • Timed exclusive Disney Infinity content for the Marvel universe for PS3 and PS4.
  • Paradox Studio is bringing Magicka 2 for PS4.
  • Grim Fandango will be exclusive to PS4 and Vita.
  • Some indie games like Broforce, Titan Souls, and The Talos Principle are coming to PS4.
  • Suda 51 is bringing Let it Die exclusively to PS4.
  • ABZU  is an underwater adventure and is a console exclusive on PS4.
  • No Man’s Sky is another Sci-Fi indie exclusive for PS4. The title seems to focus on space exploration with randomly generated worlds.
  • Youtube broadcasting is coming to PS4.
  • New Playroom content coming this summer.
  • 25 Free-to-play games are coming to PS4 in the next 12 months including Planetside 2 and War Thunder.
  • PlayStation Now will be available as an open beta in America on July 31st.
  • PlayStation Now on Vita is being touted. Over 100 titles are being developed for the platform.
  • PlayStation TV allows you to extend your console experience to a different TV in your house. Will retail for $99.
  • Mortal Kombat X gameplay was shown for the first time.
  • Super Hero TV show Powers coming to PlayStation Network. Coming in December. PS+ subscribers will have access to the entire series for free. A Ratchet and Clank TV show is in development.
  • The original Ratchet and Clank is coming to PS4 with a graphical update.
  • The Last of Us Remastered is coming to PS4 on July 29th.
  • GTA 5 coming to PS4 this Fall.
  • Batman: Arkham Knight was shown.
  • Uncharted 4 teaser trailer was shown, but no gameplay. Coming 2015.

  • Far Cry 4 footage starts the show.
  • Just Dance 2015 is coming in October. Now this title has smartphone connectivity.
  • More footage from Tom Clancy’s: The Division.
  • More teaser footage for the MMO racer, The Crew. This title promises multiplayer, cross-country driving. A closed beta will release July 23rd. The game will release Nov. 11, 2014.
  • A FMV trailer of Assassin’s Creed: Unity shows the brutality of the assassinations in the game. Some new gameplay was also shown, and the game releases Oct. 28.
  • Microsoft and Ubisoft have partnered to bring us Shape Up, a new fitness title for the Kinect. This title looks to eschew the sterile workout gaming with a more stylized mini-game approach.
  • Gameplay from the title Valiant Hearts, due out June 25th, shows a sentimental narrative involving a dog with the backdrop setting of WW1.
  • Yves Guillimot came out to announce Rainbow Six: Siege which brings us a new squad-based tactical FPS experience.

  • Happy Wars is coming to Xbox One with 4-player split-screen multiplayer and cross-play with Xbox 360.
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on Xbox One shows off improved graphics, mech suits and 4-legged mech tanks, swarms of airborne drones, homing grenades, and a palpable sci-fi feel.
  • Nurburgring track in Forza 5 is out TODAY for FREE, down to “millimeter accuracy.”
  • Forza Horizon 2 will have dynamic weather, day and night cycle, 200 cars, an open-world feel, and 1080P resolution. Coming out on Sept 30, 2014.
  • Play as the monster in Evolve.
  • Assassin’s Creed: Unity has 4-Player co-op.
  • 8-player co-op for Sunset Overdrive. Will come out Oct. 28th.
  • New, special Capcom 31st anniversary DLC for Dead Rising 3 available now.
  • Dance Central: Spotlight is a download only version of the popular dance game franchise for Xbox One coming this September.
  • Play in teams of 4 or as the evil villain in Fable Legends. Multiplayer beta due this fall.
  • Conker is coming to Project Spark.
  • Ori and The Blind Forest is an Xbox One exclusive side-scroller.
  • Nov 11, 2014, Xbox One will get Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Includes Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4. All 4 games will be on 1 disc and can be played in any order. All games will have remastered graphics, and Halo 2 will retain all of the original multiplayer maps. Over 100 multiplayer maps, all running in 1080P and 60 FPS, and 4000 achievement points will be part of the package.
  • Halo 5: Guardians will see a beta coming in December and will be open to Halo: The Master Chief Collection purchasers.
  • Inside for Playdead is coming to Xbox One in 2015.
  • A litany of ID@Xbox games where shown to satisfy indie fans.
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider announced for 2015.
  • With beautiful graphics and fluid combat, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is shaping up to be an open-world RPG epic.
  • Phantom Dust is coming to Xbox One.
  • Tom Clancy’s: The Division is coming in 2015.
  • Platinum Games is making an Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound. Not much known about what kind of game it is, but monster-slaying action is a good bet.
  • Crackdown is coming to Xbox One, and the team is being lead by the original game’s creator.

Naked Shades (collaboration with Andi McClure) is the world's first networked Twine game, an experimental MMO where players are hungry ghosts scavenging each other's corpses for scraps of identity. Winners can permanently add to the game. ALL I WANT IS FOR ALL OF MY FRIENDS TO BECOME INSANELY POWERFUL is a secret. Requires sound. Parasite is about trans shit, dream shit. Gamescom 2013: Sony Press Conference

 

Here’s the latest from the Sony Gamescom press conference.

  • Gran Turismo 6 is coming out globally on December 6, 2013 on PS3. A Hollywood film based on the Gran Turismo franchise was also announced.
  • Little Big Planet Hub, a free-to-play service set in the Little Big Planet universe, will release later this year.
  • Consumers who pre-order Grand Theft Auto 5 on PSN will receive 75% off any Rockstar title on the PSN. An exclusive PS3 hardware bundle and custom headset were also announced.
  • Mega Pack bundles for Vita, which includes 6-10 games, will also include an 8 meg memory card for the European market. Borderlands 2 was announced for Vita.
  • Starbound, Fez, and Velocity 2X will come to Vita and PS4 this year.
  • PS Vita is getting a price cut in North America. It will retail for $199.99 and the memory cards will also see a price reduction.
  • Create your own music festival on Vita with the free-to-play title, Big Fest.
  • Rogue Legacy will make its console debut on PS4 and will come to Vita as well next year.
  • PS4 and Vita will get Volume exclusively, from the creator of Thomas Was Alone.
  • Guns Of Icarus Online will come exclusively for consoles on PS4.
  • Vlambeer’s Wasteland Kings will make its console debut exclusively on PS4 and Vita next year.
  • Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number will make its console debut exclusively on PS4 and Vita next year.
  • Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, a story based adventure from The Chinese Room, will come to PS4.
  • Rime, from Tequila Works, was announced.
  • The cross-platform (PS4, PS3, Vita) game Helldivers, a 3/4 perspective shooter, was announced.
  • Resogun, space shooter from the developers of Super Stardust, was shown.
  • Twitch online game streaming service will be available of PS4.
  • A re-imagined version of the Amiga classic, Shadow of the Beast, is coming to PS4.
  • Playroom augmented reality apps requiring the PlayStation Eye will come pre-installed on the PS4.
  • Sony has entered into agreements with various European ISPs to bring better, more accessible broadband for the European market.
  • European consumers will get a free 14 day trial of PS+ with the purchase of PS4 giving them access to games such as Driveclub and Resogun on day 1. Assassin’s Creed 3 is being added to PS+.
  • Starting this month for the European consumers, new yearly subscriptions to PS+ will earn you an extra 90 days on the service.
  • Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was shown being played on Vita via remote play. You can continue Aveline’s (AC: Liberation) adventure exclusively on the PS4 version of AC 4: Black Flag.
  • 4 exclusive missions and a character skin for Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs were announced for PS3 and PS4.
  • Minecraft is coming to PS4 on launch day.
  • Next-gen MMO military combat is coming to PS4 in War Thunder.
  • A 12 gigabyte PS3 will come to North America for $199.99.
  • Current-gen EA, Ubisoft, Activision and Warner Bros. games will allow for next-gen upgrades of their titles for a discounted price, all for a limited time.
  • PlayStation 4 will launch in 32 countries this Holiday season. The system will release on November 15, 2013 in North America, and November 29, 2013 in Europe.

 

Gamescom 2013: Microsoft

 

Gamescom takes place annually in Cologne, Germany. This means that most of the exciting activities at the world’s largest video game trade show happens when most Americans are asleep. After midnight Pacific Standard Time, Microsoft held their press only (non-public) gathering where they made some new announcements for their next-generation console, the Xbox One. Since then the news has been trickling down slowly over the course of Tuesday morning. The following is a brief list of what we know so far.

  • A new video for Ryse: Son of Rome was shown revealing coop multi-player battle arenas. The combat looks faster and more fluid than previously shown, and the button prompts for executions, which had people mistakenly believe the game was all QTE combat, have been removed.
  • All Xbox One pre-orders in Europe get FIFA 14 bundled with the console, no extra charge. What about North America?
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts multi-player will run on dedicated servers for Xbox One.
  • Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and Peggle 2 will arrive first on Xbox One.
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts Xbox One bundles for Europe were announced, complete with exclusive content which will arrive first on the Microsoft platform. Still no word on North American bundles.
  • Mojang, developer of Minecraft, will release their new side-scrolling platformer, Cobalt, for Xbox One and 360.
  • A new multi-player focused Fable, called Fable Legends, was announced showing players can choose to be the hero or villain.
  • Independent Developers @ Xbox is a new program to help indie devs to put content on the Xbox One. “Qualified” developers will get two Xbox One dev kits for free, access to toolsets, cloud services, achievements, and Kinect and Smartglass functionality for their games.
  • Killer Instinct will come out at two main price points: $20 will get you all eight characters (6 which will be available at launch) and some unlocks. $40 will get you all the characters and character skins, and an emulated version of the original Killer Instinct. A season 2 was announced to come out in a year or so and will be fully compatible with season 1. Each character purchase for the free-to-play model will cost $5, but purchasing all characters will not cost more than the $20 price point.
  • Tom Clancy’s The Division will offer Xbox One owners some undisclosed exclusive content. The game is scheduled to release late 2014.

 

Gamescom 2013: EA Press Conference

 

Here’s the latest from EA’s Gamescom 2013 press conference.

  • The Sims 4 will allow for faster, easier home building and character creation. The new emotion system will determine what kind of behavioral and conversation options appear in social situations. The Sims 4 will release sometime in 2014.
  • The new Command and Conquer, due later this year, will be “free and live” (free-to-play) and will have story based missions that will be playable solo beginning in 2014.
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition will allow players to make decisions that controls the fate of entire communities. The new RPG will release in the Fall of 2014.
  • Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will have playable zombies. The game will release in the Spring of 2014 for Xbox One and 360. The Xbox One exclusive feature, Bossmode, was announced which gives players Kinect (via motion control and voice commands) and Smartglass strategic control of the battlefield.
  • Peggle 2 will release first on Xbox One.
  • EA Sports UFC implements a new character graphics tech called “Feel the Fight” which allows for greater realism in animation and full-body deformation. The game will release for Xbox One and PS4 in the Spring of 2014.
  • The new Need For Speed will feature Ferrari cars for the first time in 7 years. The game will release on November 21, 2013.
  • FIFA 14 demo will be available September 10, 2013 and the full game will release on September 24, 2013 in North America for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Seasons in FIFA 14 can be carried over to the next-gen consoles. The Ultimate Team Legends feature, which is exclusive to Xbox One and 360, will allow gamers to experience playing as legendary soccer/football players from the past.
  • Battlefield 4 will have 64 player, 2 commander multi-player, all running at 60 FPS. The new “Levelution” system means an evolving, dynamic battlefield in multi-player, where no two games are the same. Battlefield 4 will release on October 29, 2013 in North America for all current-gen systems, and shortly after for next-gen. Battlefield Premium members will get expansion packs and DLC two weeks early.
