IndieCade 2013 Award Winners

With all the games at IndieCade, there were awards given for different categories, some voted on by the audience. As press, Tails and Mike got a say in the “media choice” category. Here is the list of winners that you may want to check out. Congratulations to all the games!

Interaction: Spaceteam

Spaceteam is a cooperative party game for 2 to 4 players who shout technobabble at each other until their ship explodes. Each player needs a mobile device (phone or tablet).

Game Design: NIDHOGG

NIDHOGG is a head to head acrobatic fencing game where players compete for the right to be eaten by a giant flying worm.

Technology: Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party

Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party is a game for 2-8 players. Players sit in a circle around the GamePad and spin a virtual bottle. Two players are randomly paired up each round to do a collaborative physical challenge by using the Wii Remotes and each other to dance, spin, grab, jump, hide, pump, pass and squeeze.

Special Recognition: Porpentine's Twine Compilation

Compilation of 10-25 minute experimental queer hypertext games made in Twine. Howling dogs is being trapped inside a dark cell with only a virtual reality visor for escape. CYBERQUEEN is a transgressive scifi body horror thriller with real time elements rarely seen in interactive fiction. Cry$tal Warrior Ke$ha is a hypertext music video that weaves pop star Ke$ha's personal mythology into a heroic battle against transdimensional haters.
Naked Shades (collaboration with Andi McClure) is the world's first networked Twine game, an experimental MMO where players are hungry ghosts scavenging each other's corpses for scraps of identity. Winners can permanently add to the game. ALL I WANT IS FOR ALL OF MY FRIENDS TO BECOME INSANELY POWERFUL is a secret. Requires sound. Parasite is about trans shit, dream shit. Ultra Business Tycoon III is about playing games as a certain kind of child.

Audience Choice Award: Slash Dash

Media Choice Award: TowerFall

An archery combat platformer for up to 4 players. It's a local party game centering around hilarious, intense versus matches. The core mechanics are simple and accessible, but combat is fast and fierce. TowerFall is best played competitively with friends, crossed-legged on the floor within punching distance of each other.
